| St. Ignatius of Antioch Antiochian Orthodox Church Parish Council Meeting April 12, 2010 Attendees: Fr. James Coles (FrJ) Joe Ansara (JA) Subdeacon John Benza (SdJB) Marc Skocypec MS) Andy Fowler (AF) Cate Burns (CB) Chris Purdef (CP) Jennifer Baker (JB) “M” denotes a motion while “S” denotes a second in the minutes. The meeting was called to order at 7:03 immediately followed by the opening prayer. Meditation/Teaching: FrJ read a quote from Thomas Merton which is a comparison between results vs. personal relationships. Matthew 9:9-13 also addresses these issues, but in a more opaque manner. Pastor’s Report: Attendance for the Lenten services was well attended. Bishop Joseph’s visit went well. Our ad for the PLC Commemorative Journal is ready. A Men’s Theo- logical Prayer Group has started up with CP as leader and 6 or 7 men are attending. FrJ will be at Camp St. Nicholas the last week in July. Hospice training will be starting in June as follows: Wed. 6/9 from 6-9pm, Sat. 6/12 from 8:30am-4:30pm, Wed. 6/16 from 6-9pm, and Sat. 6/19 from 8:30am-4:30pm. Facilities Committee: MS has been hearing many positive comments about the remodel and expanded space. We still need to have the floors cleaned and the sink taken out of the fellowship area. MS has a toilet we can put in the restroom for the classrooms. Stewardship Committee: JA informed us we have one more pledge which has come in. He will continue putting financial updates in the bulletin and send out emails so the folks will know if they are on track with their pledges or not. Sunday School Committee: Everything is going well. MS suggested we begin now to ask for volunteer’s for next fall. Antiochian Women: The ladies cancelled the bunco event and they are going to provide a new vacuum for the Church. Men’s Club: The men are planning a breakfast for the women on Mother’s Day. Strategic Planning Committee (Formerly called the Steering Committee): There was general discussion of what people should make up the committee. FrJ will be talking to a few people as well as MS. In addition, we discussed what specifically the committee’s mission should be keeping in mind the teaching we discussed this evening. MS and FrJ will invite the committee members to attend our next Council meeting and we will give them a clear idea of how to proceed. FrJ asked us all to send him a Mission Statement for the committee. Approval of Minutes: “M” by AF and “S” by JA with corrections. Treasurer’s Report: Most people are fulfilling their financial commitment and we are doing well in regard to cash flow. Our new rent is $4,200/mo. “M” by SdJB and “S” by AF. We discussed how to better invest our savings/building fund. JA had spoken to Wells Fargo as well as Gateway Bank. We agreed to put 200K in a 12 month CD at Gateway Bank which would give us a higher yield than we are currently receiving and give JA the authority to do so. Lock Up List: Complete and will be posted in the fellowship area and emailed to us all shortly. Member Phone and Address Directory: Gina has all the information and if she needs help CB will help her. Parish Life Conference: FrJ will make Sunday announcements from now until the PLC. Golf Tournament: MS had lunch with Jim and they decided a September date would be best. MS said it is important we focus on raising money from outside the church. We decided it would be good to have a Ladies and a Men’s representative to work on the golf tournament with Jim. Priest Compensation Sub-Committee: MS asked for 2-3 people who would look at the compensation guide and come back with recommendations. JA, CP and SdJB volun- teered to do so. MS wants it to be more comprehensive and then the committee can discuss it with FrJ to insure his needs are being addressed. They will report back at the next Council meeting. The meeting was adjourned following the closing prayer at 8:52pm. Respectfully submitted by, Cate Burns |
